House Music is a music competition in school. It’s between the three school houses, and this year, I’m one of the House Captains — partially in charge of managing the acts.
I got a score for five parts, for the Godfather waltz and theme, and am also playing A Thousand Years from Twilight.
We were allocated three periods of practice, today. The Godfather group was on first — we have me on accordion (Soprano), another accordion (2nds), flute (1sts), piano (3rds) and bass guitar (Bass).
The waltz part went very well!… Then there was the theme. Nobody knew what to do, and it was incredibly awkward. Felt like everyone thought it was my fault. Also, it turns out, the flute actually had the 2nds part, instead of the 1sts. Great! Had to print that out, but we’re gonna be practicing again after school.
Showed the 1sts part to the flautist. She doesn’t know if she can learn it on such short notice. Yaaaaaay!
The group didn’t go too badly, actually! I switched to playing the melody, and keeping the two 2nds where they were. Took a bit of coordination, but we’re definitely getting there! :D
I haven’t been feeling well, today, and I have a sore throat and blocked nose. Did a Covid test, and will let you know how that goes shortly. If it turns out I have Covid, then we have a huge problem, as I then can’t do House Music, and that will cause two of our acts to be unperformable.
Phew, it’s negative. Okay.
[31st of March] sorryyyyyy i procrastinated writing this
We were on second, meaning I got to watch one of the houses perform first. They did quite well, and their intro video was really good too (it was made by a Moving Image Arts student). It’s up on YouTube, and I rewatched it recently. Not giving a link to it though, for obvious reasons :)
I was really nervous, watching their performance, knowing I had a lead part in two of our acts. That settled, though, and our performance began.
Our video was great! After that, though, I realised that I forgot my music. Damn. Managed to keep it a secret, and thankfully I had it memorised.
My Godfather ensemble was on third, and we… did really well! Surprisingly well, in fact. I only made one small mistake, and everyone else’s mistakes were unnoticable.
The Twilight was immediately after that, and it also went well! I’m not great at playing my violin when I’m nervous, though, so my tonality was a bit limited. I also made a major mistake, at one point, but it smoothed itself out. Phew.
Then, House Choir, singing I’m Just Ken. Ehhhhh. I didn’t know the melody, so I kinda went with everyone else. It was fine, I guess.
Got to watch the last house performance, and then it was time for results. Two of the houses got 74 and 75, respectively, and one house got 82. Guess which house won?
Somehow, my house won. Somehow. Some way. :D
The house reps all got Mini Eggs, and another one of my house’s reps got the shield (she deserved it, she did really well with organising the whole performance). Photos, etc.
Got to see the individual results — our house choir placed second, the Godfather got an 8/10, and the Twilight got a 7/10. Not bad. :D
